Chapter 4 – Justice Finds Every Door

Weeks later, the courtroom was packed.

The prosecution displayed the surveillance footage on a massive screen.

No dramatic speeches were necessary.

The evidence spoke for itself.

Frame by frame...

the jury watched Preston plant the phone.

Frame by frame...

they watched him attack an innocent child.

When the verdict was read—

"Guilty on all counts."

Preston's shoulders collapsed.

For the first time in his life, no one stepped in to rescue him.

Not our parents.

Not expensive attorneys.

Not family friends.

Justice had finally become stronger than favoritism.

Outside the courthouse, reporters surrounded me.

One asked,

"Do you hate your brother?"

I looked toward the courthouse doors.

"No."

"Hate would mean he still controls part of my life."

"He doesn't."

"My only responsibility now...

is protecting my daughter."

Sophie's recovery was slow.

The scar near her hairline would always remain.

Every laugh reminded me that healing was stronger than fear.
