Chapter 10: The Convergence

Chapter 10: The Convergence
Rosa hauled Lily out of the dumbwaiter on the second floor, her muscles burning from the effort. She was desperate to reach the hidden panic room located behind the grand library. But as she rounded the corner, a massive mercenary stepped into their path, completely blocking the only exit.
He raised his weapon slowly, the crimson beam of his laser sight painting a deadly red dot squarely on Rosa's chest.
"Hand over the drive, Martinez," the man growled, stepping over the shattered glass. "Make it easy on the kid."
Before Rosa could brace for the fatal impact, a shadow dropped from the grand staircase above them. Ethan landed squarely on the mercenary's shoulders, using his momentum to drive a heavy, solid bronze candlestick directly into the man's neck. They crashed to the floor in a brutal, chaotic tangle of limbs and tactical gear.
Ethan fought with a primal ruthlessness, fueled by the desperation of a man who had just discovered his soul after believing it lost. He dodged a wild swing, disarmed the mercenary, and knocked him unconscious with a sickening, heavy blow to the temple using the butt of the dropped rifle.
Panting heavily, his pristine white shirt now stained with sweat and blood, Ethan looked up at Rosa and Lily.

"Are you hurt?" he asked, his voice shaking with adrenaline.
"No," Rosa gasped, pulling Lily closer. "But there are more coming. We have to go. Now."
