CHAPTER 3: The Lights Come Back On

CHAPTER 3: The Lights Come Back On

The ballroom doors suddenly opened.

Two men in formal suits walked in—legal advisors, followed by a notary.

One of them spoke clearly:

“Effective immediately, all Pierce Group claims to this venue and associated assets have been suspended pending investigation.”

A collective wave of shock swept the room.

Logan stepped back. “This is insane. You can’t just—”

“I can,” Caroline interrupted gently.

“And I did.”

Avery finally dropped the champagne glass.

It shattered on the marble floor.

For the first time, she looked unsure.

Not angry.

Not mocking.

Just unsure.

“Why are you doing this?” Avery asked quietly.

Caroline looked at her for a long moment.

Then she answered:

“Because I let you believe cruelty was power.”

A pause.

“And tonight, I stopped allowing it.”

Avery’s voice cracked slightly. “You’re ruining my wedding.”

Caroline tilted her head.

“No,” she said.

“You did that yourself the moment you decided humiliation was a language worth speaking.”

The lights above flickered again.

Warm. Stable. Restored.

One by one, guests began to stand up.

Not in support of Avery.

But in quiet realization of who they had misjudged.

Logan tried to speak again, but no one was listening anymore.

Security quietly moved toward him.

And Avery stood alone beneath the chandelier she had once believed made her untouchable.

Caroline turned to leave.

At the exit, she paused once.

Without looking back, she said:

“You wanted the back row.”

A soft breath.

May you like

“Now you can sit wherever you’re allowed.”

Then she walked out.
