CHAPTER 2: THE SECRET BEHIND THE WHITMORE EMPIRE

CHAPTER 2: THE SECRET BEHIND THE WHITMORE EMPIRE

For years, everyone believed Patricia Whitmore built her empire through honesty and hard work.

The newspapers called her a visionary.

Politicians called her a leader.

Executives called her a genius.

But behind closed doors, there was another story.

Jonathan placed a document in front of me.

“Your mother-in-law’s company has been involved in illegal financial activities.”

I frowned.

“That’s impossible.”

“Is it?”

He pointed at the papers.

“Fake charities. Hidden accounts. Money transferred through companies that don’t exist.”

I looked through every page.

The evidence was overwhelming.

“But why show me this?”

Jonathan leaned back.

“Because Patricia isn’t just trying to take Lily away from you.”

He paused.

“She’s trying to protect herself.”

Suddenly everything made sense.

The gala.

The public humiliation.

The threats.

They weren’t just about family reputation.

They were about control.

If I fought back, Patricia needed me silenced.

That afternoon, I received another message.

From Claire.

Claire: We need to talk. Come home.

I stared at the screen for a long time.

Then I replied.

Daniel: I will talk. But Lily comes with me.

Five minutes later, she answered.

Claire: You are making a huge mistake.

I looked at my daughter.

Then I typed:

Daniel: No. My mistake was believing you would protect her.

That evening, I went back to the Whitmore mansion.

But this time, I wasn’t walking in as a husband begging to be heard.

I walked in as a father prepared to fight.

The entire family was waiting.

Patricia sat at the center of the room.

Marcus stood behind her.

Claire looked nervous.

“You really think you can defeat us?” Patricia asked.

I placed the documents on the table.

Her expression changed.

Just slightly.

But I noticed.

“What is this?” she asked.

“Proof.”

The room went silent.

Patricia picked up the first page.

Her face slowly lost color.

For the first time, I saw fear in her eyes.

“You have no idea what you’re doing.”

I smiled coldly.

“No, Patricia.”

I looked at Lily.

“I finally know exactly what I’m doing.”
