Chapter 8: The Trial

Chapter 8: The Trial
The trial began in late autumn. The prosecution built an ironclad case. The jury was shown the hospital photos, the toxicology reports, and the chilling entries from Linda’s hidden box.
But the turning point came when a neighbor took the stand. She was an elderly woman who had lived across the hall. Under oath, she tearfully admitted that she had heard my screams for months. More importantly, she produced a thumb drive. She had installed a hidden ring camera on her door after a string of local burglaries.
The courtroom sat in dead silence as the video played on a large screen. It showed Ryan dragging me by my hair back into the apartment when I had tried to escape three months prior. The defense had absolutely nothing left to say.
