Chapter 1: The Arrival

Chapter 1: The Arrival
Maya had barely ended the call when a convoy of black SUVs pulled onto the quiet suburban street.
Neighbors peeked through their curtains.
The vehicles stopped one after another, their polished doors opening in perfect synchronization.
A tall man in his sixties stepped out.
Jonathan Bennett.
Founder and CEO of Bennett Global Holdings.
One of the wealthiest businessmen in the Midwest.
His tailored charcoal suit looked untouched by the morning wind, but his eyes immediately softened when they found his daughter standing beside her car.
He noticed the handprint on her cheek.
For a brief second, he closed his eyes.
When he opened them again, every trace of warmth had disappeared.
"Who did this?"
Maya swallowed.
"My husband."
Jonathan nodded once.
"Then he won't be your husband for much longer."
Without another word, he motioned for his security team.
"Bring the car around."
As Maya climbed inside, she glanced toward the house.
Preston stood frozen behind the living room window.
For the first time since she had met him...
He looked afraid.
Inside the dining room, Eleanor stared through the curtains.
"Who are those people?"
Richard's face slowly turned pale.
"I've seen that emblem before."
The silver crest on the SUVs.
A crowned lion.
Bennett Global Holdings.
His coffee cup slipped from his trembling hands.
"...Dear God."
Morgan frowned.
"What?"
Richard looked directly at Preston.
"Do you have any idea who your wife's father is?"
Silence.
Preston blinked.
"No..."
Richard whispered,
"You've just declared war on the Bennett family."
Forty-five minutes later...
Every executive at Bennett Global received an emergency meeting notice.
Every attorney canceled their appointments.
Every board member was instructed to report immediately.
Jonathan Bennett had only one sentence for them.
"My daughter was assaulted."
No one asked another question.

The room understood.
Someone had just made the biggest mistake of their life.
