Chapter 2: The Truth Comes Out

Chapter 2: The Truth Comes Out

By noon, Maya sat inside her childhood home overlooking Lake Michigan.

The nurse gently treated the bruise on her cheek while Jonathan stood silently beside the window.

"I should've looked deeper into him," he finally admitted.

"I trusted your judgment."

Maya smiled sadly.

"So did I."

Her father turned.

"What do you want?"

She thought carefully.

"I don't want revenge."

Jonathan raised an eyebrow.

"I want justice."

He nodded.

"Then justice is exactly what they'll get."

Meanwhile...

Across town...

Preston arrived at his office expecting another normal workday.

Instead...

His access card flashed red.

ACCESS DENIED.

Security approached him.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Carter."

"What is this?"

"Your company has been acquired."

"What?"

"The acquisition finalized thirty minutes ago."

Preston laughed.

"Impossible."

The security guard quietly handed him a folder.

The purchasing company...

Bennett Global Holdings.

His smile disappeared.

"You've also been relieved of all executive responsibilities."

His phone rang.

It was his banker.

Then his lawyer.

Then three major clients.

Each conversation ended exactly the same way.

"We're terminating our agreement."
