As the sun began to set...
Three vehicles pulled into the circular driveway of the Bennett estate.
Preston.
Eleanor.
Richard.
Morgan.
None of them looked like they had that morning.
The confidence was gone.
Jonathan's chief of security met them at the gate.
"You'll wait."
For nearly an hour...
They stood outside.
No one complained.
Finally...
The gates opened.
Maya stepped onto the front porch.
The bruise on her cheek remained visible.
Preston slowly walked forward.
"I'm sorry."
She looked at him quietly.
"For what?"
He hesitated.
"For... everything."
She shook her head.
"No."
"You aren't sorry because you hurt me."
"You're sorry because you finally understand who my family is."
No one answered.
Because she was right.
Eleanor lowered her eyes.
"We judged you."
"You humiliated me."
"We were wrong."
Maya remained silent.
Then she spoke calmly.
"I came into your home hoping to become family."
"You treated me like property."
She looked directly at Preston.
"And you broke your vows less than twelve hours after making them."
