Chapter 6: The Blood Ledger

Mariana had known her family’s business was ruthless, built on aggressive corporate takeovers and monopolistic practices. But two weeks before the yacht incident, she had uncovered a shadow ledger hidden within their real estate holdings. Millions of dollars of dirty money were being funneled through their philanthropic foundations, cleaned, and kicked back to the cartels. She had confronted her father, threatening to go to the board. That confrontation had earned her a one-way ticket to the bottom of the ocean.

"If the cartel finds out Rodrigo is skimming off the top—which I suspect he is—they won't wait for a subpoena," Mariana said, her voice devoid of emotion.

Julian worked through the night, using Mariana's intimate knowledge of the Salcedo corporate structure to penetrate the company's deepest servers. They found the shadow ledger. Mariana was right. Rodrigo wasn't just laundering; he was embezzling from the most dangerous men in Mexico to cover massive losses in his legitimate tech investments.

"We have the video proving they tried to murder you, and the ledger proving they are stealing from the cartel," Julian said, rubbing his tired eyes. "You hold all the cards, Mariana."

"Now, we build the guillotine," Mariana replied, glancing at her sleeping son. For Nico, she would burn the world to ashes.
