CHAPTER 2: THE SECRET VICTORIA HID

CHAPTER 2: THE SECRET VICTORIA HID
"Explain."
My voice was barely controlled.
Victoria placed her wine glass on the table.
"Daniel, you need to calm down."
"No. You need to explain why my children's nanny says her son is their brother."
Emily closed her eyes.
"I never wanted to hurt your family."
"Then why didn't you tell me?"
"Because Victoria threatened me."
Victoria laughed.
"Threatened you?"
Emily looked at her.
"You told me if I ever told him, you would make sure Noah disappeared."
My blood ran cold.
"Victoria..."
She looked annoyed.
"Don't act innocent, Daniel. You have no idea what women are capable of when they are protecting their families."
"Our family?"
I pointed toward the twins.
"You almost destroyed someone else's."
Emily finally broke down.
"Eleven years ago, before you met Victoria, you had a relationship with my sister."
I froze.
"My sister?"
"Sarah."
That name hit me like a memory I had buried.
Sarah.
The woman I loved before my life changed.
The woman who disappeared after telling me she was pregnant.
"I was told she left."
Emily nodded.
"She didn't leave."
A tear rolled down her face.
"She died giving birth to Noah."
The room spun.
"And my wife knew?"
Emily nodded.
"Victoria found out years ago. She discovered Noah existed before your wedding."
I looked at Victoria.
"Why?"
Her expression finally cracked.
"Because I knew if you found out, you would leave me."
"So you destroyed her life?"
Victoria stepped closer.
"I built the life you have now."
"No."
I shook my head.
"You stole it."
Suddenly, my phone rang.
It was the hospital.
I answered.
A nurse's voice came through.
"Mr. Cole, we're calling about Noah."
My heart stopped.
"What happened?"
"Someone attempted to remove him from our care tonight."
I looked at Victoria.
May you like
She looked away.
And I knew.
