Marcus stepped closer to Khloe.

“I didn’t know,” he said desperately. “If I had known—”

“You were in the room,” she interrupted softly.

The words weren’t loud.

But they cut deeper than Isabella’s heel ever could.

Marcus stopped.

Because she was right.

He had been there.

And he hesitated.

Dr. Vale placed a hand on Marcus’s shoulder, firm but controlled.

“You need to understand something,” he said. “This is no longer a personal matter. It is a criminal case.”

Isabella laughed nervously. “Criminal? You’re all overreacting. She’s fine—look at her—”

A doctor interrupted from Khloe’s bedside.

“Fetal distress detected. We’re transferring her immediately.”

The room froze.

Marcus turned sharply. “What?”

Khloe’s hand tightened around the sheet.

For the first time, fear broke through her calm.
