Hours later, the hospital was quiet again.
The kind of quiet that follows irreversible change.
Khloe woke to soft light and the rhythmic beeping of monitors.
Dr. Vale sat beside her.
“She’s stable,” he said gently. “You both are.”
Khloe exhaled slowly.
“And Marcus?”
A pause.
“He’s outside,” her uncle replied. “He hasn’t left.”
Khloe stared at the ceiling.
“I don’t know if I want him here,” she said.
Her uncle nodded. No pressure. No persuasion.
Just honesty.
Outside the room, Marcus stood behind the glass.
Watching.
Waiting.
But not daring to enter.
