Chapter 10: The Cayman Interception

Chapter 10: The Cayman Interception

The sun beat down relentlessly on the sun-bleached asphalt of the George Town marina in the Cayman Islands. Palm trees swayed lazily in the Caribbean breeze, contrasting sharply with the grim, tactical efficiency of the local law enforcement units forming a perimeter around slip 14.

I stepped off the local charter flight, wearing polarized sunglasses and a light linen jacket over my dark trousers, the sea breeze whipping past me as I walked down the pier. Special Agent David Vance was waiting by the gangway of a sleek, white ninety-foot luxury yacht named the Siren’s Call.

"You didn't have to fly all the way down here, Captain," David said, stepping forward to brief me as local police officers led a handcuffed, sputtering Richard Sterling down the yacht's boarding ramp.

"I wanted to see it with my own eyes," I replied, stopping a few feet away from my brother-in-law.

Richard’s face was bright red with fury and sunstroke. As he caught sight of me, he struggled against the local constables, his voice cracking. "Evelyn! You psychotic bitch! You set me up! This is kidnapping! This is illegal!"

"No, Richard," I said softly, stepping close enough to catch the smell of cheap gin and fear radiating off him. "This is what happens when you try to steal from the trust fund of sailors who died in an engine room fire. The ledger always balances in the end."

"Your father would have crushed you!" Richard snarled, spit flying from his lips as he was shoved toward a waiting police cruiser. "We built this empire! You were just a mistake we buried at sea!"

"And look where the burial ground got you," I murmured.

I watched as the cruiser doors slammed shut and the vehicle kicked up a cloud of dust, tearing down the marina road toward the local federal holding facility.

David handed me a secure flash drive recovered from the yacht's navigation console. "All secondary digital assets, offshore shell accounts, and the remaining hidden trust funds have been successfully seized and transferred back to the Leviathan Foundation."

I took the flash drive, slipping it safely into my pocket. The last remaining fragment of the empire built on my family's deceit had finally been reclaimed.

I turned my gaze away from the marina toward the vast, clear blue expanse of the Caribbean Sea. The water was calm, beautiful, and deep. For the first time in my life, the ghosts were entirely gone, leaving only the steady, unyielding compass of my own future.
