Chapter 13: The New Horizon

Chapter 13: The New Horizon

The federal courthouse steps gleamed under the midday sun as I walked down them, accompanied by Special Agent David Vance and Admiral Reed. The media swarm at the bottom was deafening—flashes blinding my eyes, microphones thrust forward, reporters shouting over one another trying to get a soundbite on the complete collapse of Vance Global Logistics and the federal indictment of the remaining family members.

I didn't stop for interviews. I didn't need to say a word to the press. The legal documents filed this morning spoke louder than any headline ever could.

We climbed into the waiting sedan, and the doors locked, shutting out the chaos of the city streets.

"It's over, Captain," David said from the front passenger seat, turning around with a relieved smile. "The corporate dissolution is 100% complete. The Leviathan Foundation is fully operational, and the first wave of safety grants for naval engineering schools has cleared."

I looked down at my phone. A notification popped up from the Department of the Navy: my formal appointment as senior advisor to the Naval Board of Maritime Safety and Equipment Standards.

I locked the screen and looked out the window as the car merged onto the highway, heading south toward the harbor where the ships cut cleanly through the open water.

The scars on my back would never completely vanish, just as the memory of that burning engine room would always remain etched into my soul. But they weren't chains anymore. They were armor.

I had taken back my name, honored my fallen crewmates, and torn down an empire built on lies. And as the salty breeze drifted through the cracked window of the car, I knew my true journey was only just beginning.
