Chapter 6: The Setup
The emergency custody and preliminary separation hearing took place in a private, closed courtroom on a rainy Tuesday morning.
Isabella sat beside her high-priced, aggressive lawyer, wearing a conservative, elegant navy dress. She looked the picture of a distraught, loving mother holding her family together. As Ethan entered with Sarah, Isabella shot him a look of absolute, venomous triumph. She truly believed she had won the public relations war.
Her lawyer stood up first. "Your Honor, Mr. Cole’s actions are erratic and dangerous. He has unlawfully evicted my client from her marital home, severed her access to marital funds, and alienated her from her stepdaughter. We are asking for immediate reinstatement to the home, temporary spousal support of fifty thousand dollars a month, and a psychological evaluation of Mr. Cole."
The judge, an older, stern woman named Miller, looked at Ethan over her reading glasses. "Mr. Cole. Your wife has made some serious allegations in the press and in this courtroom. How do you respond?"
Ethan didn't speak. He simply looked at Sarah, who stood up and calmly approached the judge's bench with a sealed flash drive and a thick stack of printed transcripts.
"Your Honor," Sarah said, her voice echoing in the quiet room. "My client does not wish to argue. He merely wishes to submit discovery exhibit A. It contains verifiable, timestamped security footage from the marital home over the last six months."

Isabella scoffed audibly. "Those cameras were turned off. He's bluffing."
Sarah didn't even look at her. "They were disconnected from the house monitor, Your Honor. Not the secure cloud backup."
