Chapter 18 - Digital GuillotineThe subway maintenance tunnel was dead silent except for the frantic clicking of Sarah’s keyboard.

David paced back and forth, a blanket wrapped around his shivering shoulders. Ethan was curled up in a sleeping bag in the corner, finally resting peacefully.
"Talk to me, Sarah," David urged, checking his watch for the tenth time.
"I'm in," Sarah breathed, her eyes wide as the decrypted files flooded her screen. "Oh my god, David. You weren't kidding. This isn't just a ledger. It's an entire offshore banking network. Shell companies in Panama, trusts in the Cayman Islands, cryptocurrency wallets in Switzerland."
"How much?" David asked.
"Liquid assets? Close to forty-two million dollars," Sarah said, shaking her head in disbelief. "She didn't just steal from her husband in Oregon. She's been doing this for over a decade. She's a professional black widow."
"Can you access the funds?"
Sarah’s fingers flew across the keys. "The passwords you recovered bypass the two-factor authentication. I have root access. I am officially standing inside Evelyn Thorne’s digital vault."
David stopped pacing. He looked at the screen, then at Sarah.
"Burn it down," he commanded.
Sarah smiled, a fierce, predatory grin. "Where do you want it to go?"
"Send the initial ten million to the Department of Justice's anonymous tip and asset forfeiture account. Flag it with the case files from Oregon. The FBI won't be able to ignore a ten-million-dollar wire transfer with a map to a body."
"Done. Transferring now," Sarah said, hitting the enter key. A green progress bar shot across the screen. Transfer Complete.
"And the rest?" Sarah asked.
David looked over at Ethan, watching his son's chest rise and fall in the dim light.
"Divide it up. Send it to children's hospitals. Domestic abuse shelters. Orphanages. Every single penny. Leave her with nothing but zero balances and frozen credit cards."
"Executing mass wire transfers," Sarah announced, her hands moving like lightning.
Transferring $5,000,000 to St. Jude's. Transferring $3,200,000 to The National Domestic Violence Hotline. Transferring $8,000,000 to the Oregon State Orphanage Foundation.
The progress bars lit up the dark tunnel, a beautiful, digital cascade of justice.
Across the city, in the penthouse suite of the Four Seasons, Evelyn Thorne was pacing furiously in her silk robe. Elias hadn't called. Her cleanup crew hadn't reported in.
She picked up her phone and dialed her elite defense attorney, Arthur Sterling.
"Arthur, I want a private jet ready at Teterboro by 6:00 AM," Evelyn demanded the moment he answered. "I'm cutting off my ankle monitor and leaving the country. I'll double your retainer."
"Evelyn," Sterling's voice was tight, anxious. "I was just about to call you. My firm's accounting department just notified me. Your retainer check... it bounced."
Evelyn stopped pacing. "What? That's impossible. That account has six million dollars in it."
"It's empty, Evelyn. And that's not all. The offshore trust that posted your bail just issued a complete withdrawal. Your bail has been revoked. The federal judge just issued an immediate warrant for your arrest."
"No, no, no!" Evelyn screamed, dropping the phone. She rushed to her laptop, her manicured fingers trembling as she logged into her Swiss banking portal.
She stared at the screen.
ACCOUNT BALANCE: $0.00
She checked her Cayman trust.
ACCOUNT BALANCE: $0.00
She checked her crypto wallet.
ACCOUNT BALANCE: $0.00
The color completely drained from her face. Her empire, built on the blood of innocent men and children, had evaporated into thin air. She wasn't a multi-millionaire untouchable queen anymore.
She was just a broke, desperate woman with nowhere to run.
And then, she heard it.

"FBI! OPEN THE DOOR!"
