Chapter 5: The Rat Race
As the financial documents scrolled across the screens, the atmosphere in the museum shifted from fear to self-preservation.
"I want immunity!" Senator Vance shouted, stepping directly into the camera's view. "I was coerced! The Holloways threatened my family if I didn't vote for their zoning laws!"
"Shut up, Vance!" Grant roared, trying to stand, but the guards forced him back down.
"No, let him speak," Mara said smoothly. "In fact, anyone who wishes to confess their involvement with Holloway Industries may do so now. The FBI is watching this feed. Consider this your only chance to be a cooperative witness before you become an accessory."
It was a bloodbath of the elite.
Judge Carter was the next to break. He stepped forward, adjusting his tie with trembling hands, and admitted to dismissing three environmental lawsuits against the Holloway chemical plants in exchange for offshore deposits.
Next was the CEO of a major construction firm, confessing to using substandard materials on public housing contracts at the Holloways' behest.
Grant watched in horror as his entire empire was dismantled by the very people his father had bought and paid for. They were stepping over his body to save themselves.

"You're a witch," Grant hissed at Mara. "You planned this for months."
"Six months, to be exact," Mara corrected softly. "Ever since your father ruined mine. Did you think I would forget, Grant? Did you think I would just fade away?"
