Chapter 4: The Truth About Adrian

Chapter 4: The Truth About Adrian
Several days later, Clara visited Adrian's office.
She wanted only one thing.
To thank him.
Instead, Adrian handed her an old photograph.
She stared at it.
The picture showed two young women laughing together.
One of them...
Was Clara's late mother.
The other...
Adrian's older sister.
"My sister died fifteen years ago," Adrian said quietly.
"Before she passed away, she made me promise something."
He paused.
"If I ever found your family, I would protect them."
Clara covered her mouth.
"My mother never told me..."
"She wanted you to live an ordinary life."
Adrian smiled gently at the twins playing by the office window.
"But promises don't disappear simply because time passes."
He then offered Clara something she never expected.
A position managing the charitable foundation his sister had dreamed of creating.
Not because she needed saving.

Because she had already proven the honesty, compassion, and courage that no résumé could ever capture.
Clara accepted.
