Chapter 13 - The Wedding FilePierce opened Vanessa's drive inside Karen's secure office.

The folder marked WEDDING contained photographs, schedules, and messages.
At first, nothing seemed unusual.
Then they found a document titled Contingency.
Daniel read aloud.
If Daniel refuses document access before honeymoon departure, create emotional disruption during reception.
Rachel frowned.
“What kind of disruption?”
Pierce scrolled.
A list appeared.
Public argument with Rachel.
Accusation involving Ellie.
Damage to heirloom jewelry.
Create conditions for rapid departure after ceremony.
Daniel stared at the screen.
“The wedding disaster was planned?”
Vanessa shook her head.
“Not the way it happened.”
Everyone looked at her.
Helena had apparently expected some form of conflict.
Enough to pressure Daniel into leaving for Greece.
Vanessa had refused.
“I told her I wouldn't involve Ellie.”
Rachel's expression stayed cold.
“But then you did.”
Vanessa lowered her eyes.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because guests kept asking about her.”
“That is not an answer.”
Vanessa looked up.
“Because I panicked.”
Rachel said nothing.
“I had spent two years pretending Daniel's life before me didn't bother me.”
“I told myself I could handle seeing you.”
“Then you walked into the ballroom.”
Vanessa laughed bitterly.
“And you looked like you belonged there more than I did.”
Rachel almost interrupted.
Vanessa continued.
“Ellie ran to Daniel.”
“He picked her up.”
“He looked happier in that moment than he had looked all morning.”
Daniel looked away.
Vanessa's voice broke.
“And I hated myself for resenting a child.”
Rachel listened.
Then Vanessa added,
“But I resented her anyway.”
The room was silent.
Rachel appreciated only one thing.
Vanessa was finally telling the truth.
Pierce continued searching.
He found bank records.
Helena had paid Vanessa nearly four million dollars over two years.
Some payments were labeled consulting fees.
Others loans.
Daniel stared.
“You were being paid.”
Vanessa nodded.
“Yes.”
“While living with me.”
“Yes.”
Daniel stood.
He walked to the window.
Vanessa looked at him.
“I can return everything.”
Daniel laughed once.
“That isn't the point.”
“I know.”
“No.”
He turned.
“You don't know.”
His voice remained calm.
That made it worse.
“You sat beside my daughter at breakfast.”
“You helped her decorate Christmas cookies.”
“You bought her birthday presents.”
“And then you helped people build a plan around her inheritance.”
Vanessa cried silently.
Daniel continued.
“You didn't just lie to me.”
“You made my child trust you.”
Vanessa covered her face.
Rachel watched Daniel.
For the first time, she saw the full depth of his betrayal.
Not romantic betrayal.
Parental betrayal.
That wound went deeper.
Pierce interrupted gently.
“There is more.”
He opened a recorded call.
Helena's voice filled the room.
Once North Harbor closes, we trigger the old transfers.
Vanessa answered.
What does that mean?
Helena laughed.
It means Daniel discovers his empire was built using money Rachel never authorized.
Another voice entered.
Evan.
Then we offer to make the evidence disappear.
Vanessa sounded nervous.
In exchange for what?
Helena replied.
Control.
The recording ended.
Daniel stared at Pierce.
“They were going to blackmail me.”
“Yes.”
Rachel crossed her arms.
“With my stolen money.”
“Yes.”
Karen looked at the financial records.
“And they planned to make Rachel appear responsible too.”
Rachel frowned.
“How?”
“The original transfers carry your credentials.”
“So Daniel would think I secretly funded the company?”
“Or intentionally concealed assets during divorce.”
Rachel understood.
They would turn Rachel and Daniel against each other again.
Exactly as before.
Helena's greatest weapon had never been forged signatures.
It was distrust.
Pierce opened another message.
This one had been sent only two days earlier.
From Helena to Vanessa.
If Rachel refuses the share sale, we move to Phase Three.
Rachel's pulse quickened.
“What is Phase Three?”
Vanessa looked genuinely frightened.
“I don't know.”
Pierce searched.
Nothing.
Daniel turned to Vanessa.
“Think.”
“She mentioned insurance once.”
Rachel frowned.
“What insurance?”
“I don't know.”
Vanessa shook her head.
“She said every business deal needs insurance.”
Daniel's phone rang.
Karen's assistant.
She sounded panicked.
“Karen, turn on the news.”
Karen opened a live financial channel.
A banner crossed the screen.
BREAKING: MORGAN DEVELOPMENT ACCUSED OF FRAUDULENT FINANCING.
Daniel went still.
A reporter stood outside Morgan Development headquarters.
“Anonymous documents provided this morning appear to show millions in unauthorized transfers used to fund Daniel Morgan's early business operations.”
Rachel stared.
Phase Three.
Helena had released the records.
The reporter continued.
“Questions are also emerging regarding whether Rachel Morgan concealed financial interests during divorce proceedings.”
Rachel felt sick.
Exactly as predicted.
Phones began ringing.
Daniel's company stock in private secondary markets was already dropping.
Lenders were calling.
North Harbor's sellers had suspended negotiations.
Helena had decided if she could not control Morgan Development quietly, she would destroy its credibility publicly.
Daniel looked at Rachel.
“They'll come after you too.”
Rachel watched the television.
Her name flashed beneath Daniel's.
Former Wife Linked to Questionable Transfers.
She stood.
“Good.”
Daniel frowned.
“Good?”
Rachel picked up Margaret's ledger.
“For years Helena depended on us being ashamed.”
“Confused.”
“Separated.”
Rachel looked at Vanessa.
“Now we have everything.”
Then at Daniel.
“So we stop reacting.”
Rachel walked toward the door.
“What are you doing?”
“Calling a press conference.”
Karen nearly dropped her phone.
“Rachel, absolutely not.”
Rachel turned.
“They want everyone to believe Daniel built his company with stolen money.”
“He did.”
Daniel flinched.
Rachel continued.
“Mine.”
May you like
She smiled.
“So let's tell them exactly whose company it really is.”
