Chapter 1: The Knock That Shattered the Empire
I stopped reacting when they threatened me. I stopped trembling. The fear that had kept me paralyzed for two years suddenly evaporated, replaced by a cold, sharp clarity. Adrian raised his hand, his eyes burning with that familiar, sadistic thrill. He loved this part. He loved the absolute power he held over me.
But before his hand could descend, the heavy oak front door of the mansion didn't just open—it was thrown wide.
The heavy thud echoed through the grand foyer, freezing Adrian in place. Margaret’s wine glass paused halfway to her lips.
Footsteps, sharp and authoritative, clicked against the imported Italian marble. It wasn't one person. It was an entourage. Six men in tailored black suits stepped into the entryway, their expressions carved from stone. And stepping through the center of them was a man whose presence commanded the very oxygen in the room.
Victor Whitmore.
My father.
He took in the scene in a fraction of a second: my defensive posture shielding my pregnant belly, the tears staining my cheeks, and Adrian’s raised fist. My father’s jaw tightened, a subtle movement that I knew meant absolute, unmitigated destruction.
"Who the hell are you?" Adrian barked, dropping his hand and stepping forward, slipping instantly back into his arrogant billionaire persona. "This is private property. My security will have you arrested in three seconds."
My father didn't even look at him. He walked straight toward me, his cold eyes softening for a fleeting moment. "Elena," he said, his voice thick with an emotion he rarely showed the world. "It’s time to go home."
Adrian let out a harsh, mocking laugh. "Elena doesn't have a home. She has no one. I don't know what kind of scam this is, old man, but you’ve picked the wrong house to break into."
I finally stood up straight. I looked Adrian dead in the eye, watching the confusion ripple across his perfectly manicured features.

"Adrian," I said, my voice steady for the first time in months. "I’d like you to meet my father. Victor Whitmore."
Margaret’s wine glass slipped from her fingers, shattering against the hardwood floor. A crimson stain bled across the pristine rug, mirroring the blood draining from her son's face.
