Chapter 8: The Fall of the House of Cross

The arrest was broadcast on every major news network. Footage of Adrian Cross, once the golden boy of Chicago real estate, being marched out of the botanical gardens in handcuffs, weeping uncontrollably, played on a loop.

Margaret Cross was arrested three hours later at an exclusive country club, dragged out in her tennis whites screaming about her constitutional rights.

The audio recording of Adrian confessing to the entire psychiatric plot and throwing his mother under the bus was leaked to the prosecutors and, inevitably, the press. The public was horrified. The fake doctors who had signed my evaluations were stripped of their licenses and faced federal charges. The clinic was raided and shut down.

Sitting in my father's study, watching the empire crumble to ash on the television screens, I felt a strange sense of peace. The nightmare was over. They had built a kingdom on manipulation, fear, and control. And all it took was the truth to tear it all down.

Suddenly, a sharp, piercing pain ripped through my abdomen. I gasped, dropping the remote control.
