Chapter 17 - The Pathetic Echo

Returning to my massive corporate headquarters in the United States felt like a brilliant, well-deserved victory lap.

My dedicated executive team threw a lavish, highly exclusive celebration to honor our massive international success.

However, the absolute pinnacle of my immense satisfaction came from a completely unexpected, highly pathetic source.

My sharp lead attorney, Evelyn, requested an urgent, highly confidential meeting in my private office.

She walked in holding a cheap, incredibly thin paperback book that looked entirely ridiculous in her manicured hands.

She dropped the miserable object onto my massive mahogany desk with a look of pure, unadulterated disgust.

I looked down and saw a terrible, heavily photoshopped picture of Julian on the incredibly ugly cover.

The book was titled, "The Golden Cage: Surviving a Toxic Marriage to a Corporate Monster."

Julian had apparently spent the last two years writing a highly fictionalized, completely delusional memoir about our divorce.

He had desperately tried to portray himself as a tragic, innocent victim of my supposedly ruthless, unfeeling ambition.

Evelyn angrily offered to immediately file a massive defamation lawsuit and crush him into absolute financial dust.

I stared at the pathetic book for a long moment, feeling a strange, deep sense of total amusement.

I slowly shook my head and smoothly ordered Evelyn to absolutely ignore the miserable publication.

I calmly explained that suing him would only give his pathetic, desperate cries for attention the massive spotlight he craved.

Instead, I instructed my brilliant public relations team to completely buy out the publishing company that had printed his garbage.

Within forty-eight hours, the small, struggling publishing house was entirely absorbed by my massive corporate holding company.

I quietly ordered the immediate, permanent cancellation of Julian's pathetic book, officially citing incredibly poor sales and low editorial standards.

Every single printed copy was rapidly pulled from the shelves and permanently sent to an industrial paper shredder.

Julian was left with absolutely nothing but a breached contract and a massive, unpayable legal debt to his former publisher.

He attempted to publicly complain on social media, but his desperate posts were completely ignored by the busy, uncaring world.

He was finally, permanently erased from the public narrative, entirely silenced by the massive empire he had once tried to steal.

I did not feel a single ounce of pity as I watched his final, pathetic attempt at relevance burn to absolute ash.
