Chapter 3 – The Truth They Could No Longer Hide

Chapter 3 – The Truth They Could No Longer Hide
My father nodded once toward the ballroom entrance.
Three people walked inside.
A senior attorney.
A private investigator.
And the chairman of the charity foundation Margaret proudly claimed to support every year.
The investigator placed a thick folder onto the head table.
"Everything is documented."
Photographs.
Security footage.
Financial records.
Witness statements.
The attorney opened the first file.
"For years, Margaret Bennett has used charitable donations for personal luxury expenses."
The chairman's face turned pale.
"What?"
More documents appeared.
"The Bennett family also threatened employees into signing false statements to protect their public image."
Guests stared in disbelief.
My husband's face drained of color.
"This... this isn't possible."
My father calmly answered.
"It is."
He looked toward several reporters who had quietly entered the ballroom after receiving anonymous tips.
"Cameras don't lie."
The ballroom screens suddenly switched on.
Wedding footage played.
Then another video appeared.
Security cameras.
Every guest watched Margaret shove an eight-year-old child.
Every guest watched her dump food over that child.
Every guest watched my husband slap his own wife.
No edits.
No excuses.
Only truth.
Silence became heavier than any scream.
Margaret tried grabbing the microphone.
"This is a misunderstanding!"
No one believed her anymore.
