Chapter 3: The Awakening

Chapter 3: The Awakening

I woke up three days later in a private recovery suite in Geneva, Switzerland. The facility looked more like a five-star resort than a hospital, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the serene, snow-capped Alps. My back was heavily bandaged, treated with advanced skin grafts and laser therapy to minimize scarring. The physical pain was a dull ache, heavily managed by intravenous medication, but my mind had never been sharper.

My father walked into the room, holding a sleek tablet. He pulled up a leather chair beside my bed and handed the device to me.

"You've been asleep, but the world hasn't," he said, a faint, dangerous smile playing on his lips.

I looked at the screen. It was a live feed of the global financial news networks. The headline scrolling across the bottom in bright red letters read: VALE ENTERPRISES CEO INDICTED ON FEDERAL FRAUD, RACKETEERING CHARGES.

"While you were resting, we initiated phase one," my father explained. "I bought up the majority of Adrian's debt through a proxy firm. The moment the FBI raided Vanessa's consulting agency and seized their laundered assets, Vale Enterprises went into freefall. The board of directors called an emergency meeting at 4:00 AM yesterday. They ousted him."

I scrolled through the articles. Adrian’s accounts were frozen under the RICO Act. His credit cards were declined. His passport was confiscated. The untouchable man was now entirely grounded, stripped of the very wealth and status that had fueled his monstrous ego.

"What about Vanessa?" I asked, my voice slightly raspy but steady.

"Currently residing in a federal holding cell," my father replied smoothly. "She’s been crying to the guards, offering to testify against Adrian in exchange for immunity. My contacts at the Justice Department, however, have made it very clear that no deals will be offered to either of them."
