Six months had passed since the freezing night of the canceled wedding. The bitter cold of December had finally surrendered to the vibrant, blooming warmth of May.
Liam sat on a checkered picnic blanket in the middle of a sun-drenched park. The air smelled of freshly cut grass and blossoming cherry trees. Beside him, Lily was laughing hysterically as she tried to teach their newly adopted golden retriever puppy how to catch a frisbee. The dog was failing miserably, choosing instead to tackle Lily and cover her face in sloppy kisses.
Liam watched them, a profound sense of peace settling deep in his chest. His company was thriving, stronger than ever now that the distracting dead weight of the Sterling family's influence was gone. But more importantly, his daughter was thriving. The shadows of the trauma had faded, replaced by the bright, resilient joy of childhood.
"Hey, Dad! Look!" Lily yelled, pointing as the puppy finally clamped its jaws around the bright red plastic disc, strutting around proudly.
"I see it, kiddo! Good job!" Liam called back, grinning from ear to ear.

He leaned back on his elbows, turning his face up to the warm spring sun. He thought back to that icy balcony, to the suffocating tension of that bridal suite, and the sickening sound of tearing paper. It felt like a lifetime ago. A different world.
He had lost a wedding that night, but he had saved his family. Looking at his daughter, safe, warm, and endlessly loved, Liam knew he was the luckiest man alive. The nightmare was over, and the rest of their lives had just begun.
