Chapter 8: The Dominoes Fall

"Turn that off," Vanessa's lead attorney snapped, frantically shuffling papers, clearly blindsided by the evidence his own client had lied to him about.

"The footage continues for fourteen minutes," Marcus said, his voice cutting through the panic like a scalpel. "Fourteen minutes of an eight-year-old child trapped in ten-degree weather in a sleeveless dress, while the plaintiff files her nails. Furthermore, we have a sworn affidavit from a venue staff member who was in the adjacent room and heard the specific threat plaintiff whispered, perfectly matching my client's testimony."

Vanessa stared at the screen, her mouth opening and closing like a fish. The polished, untouchable heiress was gone, replaced by a terrified woman watching her lies burn to the ground.

"We are counter-suing," Marcus continued, not giving them a second to breathe. "Child endangerment, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and defamation. We will be submitting this footage to the police department for criminal negligence charges, and we will be releasing it to the press to correct the defamatory narrative you have aggressively pushed."

"You can't do that!" Vanessa shrieked, finally breaking her composure, slamming her hands on the table. "That will ruin me!"

May you like

Liam leaned forward, resting his forearms on the table. He looked at the woman he had almost married, feeling absolutely nothing but cold contempt.

"You ruined yourself, Vanessa," Liam said softly. "You played a very dangerous game with my daughter's life. Now, you get to deal with the consequences."
