The heavy mahogany doors of the grand ballroom swung open with a slow, ominous creak, echoing through the cavernous space. Emily’s phone dropped smoothly into her clutch as two men in sharp charcoal suits marched in, their expressions carved from stone. The string quartet, mid-melody, abruptly stopped playing, and the room fell into a dead, suffocating silence. A hundred pairs of eyes shifted from the trembling pregnant woman on the floor to the intruders.
Preston’s smug smile faltered, a flicker of genuine confusion crossing his face as he adjusted his lapels. "What is the meaning of this?" he demanded, stepping forward to shield his embarrassment. "Security, remove these uninvited guests immediately."
Arthur Vance, her late father’s most trusted and fiercely loyal attorney, stepped past the paralyzed guards. He produced a thick, leather-bound stack of legal documents, his eyes locked onto Preston.
"Preston Sterling," Arthur announced, his voice booming over the murmurs of the elite guests. "By the absolute authority vested in me by the estate of Richard Hayes, you are hereby stripped of all executive privileges, titles, and access associated with Hayes Global. You are trespassing on private property."

"You will do nothing, Preston," Arthur interrupted coldly. He raised a hand, and the head of security stepped forward, nodding respectfully to Arthur—and then to Emily. They answered to the one who signed their checks. And as of tonight, that absolute power belonged to Emily Hayes.
