The jury deliberated for less than four hours—a clear testament to the overwhelming mountain of unassailable evidence. The courtroom held its collective breath, the air thick with tension, as the foreperson stood up to deliver the final verdict.

"Guilty on all counts," the foreperson read clearly. "Grand larceny, corporate fraud, conspiracy, and murder in the first degree."

Upon hearing the words, Preston completely collapsed forward onto the defense table, weeping loudly and hysterically pleading for mercy that no one in the room was willing to grant him.

The judge banged his gavel with finality. "Preston Sterling, for the heinous crimes you have committed, you are sentenced to life imprisonment in a maximum-security federal penitentiary without the possibility of parole."

As armed bailiffs hauled him away, kicking and screaming like a child, Emily quietly stood up from her seat, buttoned her designer coat, and walked out of the courthouse doors into the warm, brilliant afternoon sun.
