Chapter 4: The Letter Hidden for Six Years

Chapter 4: The Letter Hidden for Six Years

The Valmont mansion had never felt smaller.

For generations, the estate had been a place where people whispered about power.

Where servants lowered their eyes.

Where family members smiled while secretly preparing each other's downfall.

But that morning, the silence was different.

It was fear.

Adrian stood alone in his father's old study, staring at the shelves filled with family records.

Six years ago, he had buried his father.

Six years ago, he had inherited a fortune.

Six years ago, he believed he had become the head of the Valmont family.

Now he discovered he had never truly owned anything.

A quiet knock interrupted his thoughts.

"Come in."

The door opened.

It was Eleanor.

The family's longtime housekeeper.

She had worked at the estate for thirty years.

She had seen every marriage, every betrayal, and every secret.

Adrian looked at her.

"What do you want?"

Eleanor stepped inside slowly.

"I think it's time you know the truth."

Adrian frowned.

"What truth?"

She held an old envelope.

One that looked exactly like the envelope Mariana had left behind.

"This belonged to your father."

Adrian immediately reached for it.

But Eleanor pulled it back.

"He told me never to give it to you unless Mariana was forced to reveal herself."

Adrian froze.

"Why?"

"Because he knew what would happen."

Eleanor looked toward the window.

"He knew your mother would try to control everything."

Adrian's jaw tightened.

"My mother loved this family."

Eleanor looked at him sadly.

"Your mother loved the Valmont name."

A painful silence followed.

Then she handed him the envelope.

Inside was a handwritten letter.

Adrian read the first line.

My son, if you are reading this, then you have finally discovered the woman your family underestimated.

His breathing slowed.

The letter continued.

Mariana Vale is not your enemy. She is the only person who protected this family when everyone else was trying to destroy it.

Adrian's eyes moved faster.

I discovered financial crimes within our company. Someone close to me was stealing from the family fortune. I needed someone I could trust.

His fingers tightened around the paper.

Then he saw the final sentence.

The person responsible for my downfall is still living inside this house.

Adrian stopped.

His eyes slowly lifted.

Because he already knew what the letter meant.

Someone in the Valmont family had betrayed his father.

Someone who was still alive.

Across the city, Mariana sat inside the headquarters of Vale International.

The building was completely different from the woman Adrian thought he knew.

Employees greeted her respectfully.

Executives waited for her decisions.

She wasn't the quiet wife who sat silently during family dinners.

She was the woman who controlled billions.

Her assistant, Lucas, entered the office.

"The media is everywhere."

Mariana looked out at the city.

"They should be."

Lucas placed a folder on her desk.

"There is one problem."

"What?"

"Adrian found the letter."

For the first time, Mariana's expression changed.

Only slightly.

"Already?"

Lucas nodded.

"Someone gave it to him."

Mariana looked at the photo of Victor Valmont, Adrian's late father.

"He was supposed to find it eventually."

"Are you sure?"

She touched the photograph.

"Victor wanted the truth revealed."

Lucas hesitated.

"Even if it destroys his son?"

May you like

Mariana looked down.

"Especially if it saves him."
