Chapter 6 - The Legal Onslaught. The heavy mahogany doors of the federal courthouse swung open, revealing a blinding storm of flashing cameras and shouting reporters.

I walked down the granite steps with Major Sterling on my right and a phalanx of heavily armed marshals forming a protective wall around us.
The morning air was crisp and biting, a sharp contrast to the suffocating heat of the interrogation rooms I had spent the weekend in.
Every news network in the country was broadcasting this moment live, watching the disgraced daughter drag the untouchable Arthur Vance into the light.
Reporters shoved microphones through the security cordon, screaming questions about the assassination attempt that had taken place in my penthouse.
I ignored them all, keeping my eyes locked on the imposing columns of the courthouse that represented my final battlefield.
Inside the building, the air was thick with the scent of floor wax and impending doom.
We entered Courtroom 302, a cavernous space paneled in dark oak that felt more like a gladiator arena than a hall of justice.
My father was already seated at the defense table, surrounded by a team of high-priced corporate litigators who looked nervous.
Julian was noticeably absent, his empty chair a glaring testament to the failure of his midnight mercenary operation.
Arthur refused to look at me, his jaw clenched so tight I could practically hear his teeth grinding together from across the aisle.
Judge Eleanor Rossi, a notoriously no-nonsense jurist with a reputation for breaking monopolies, entered the room and struck her gavel.
“Court is now in session for the preliminary hearings of United States versus Vance Global Logistics,” Judge Rossi announced, her voice echoing sharply.
The lead defense attorney immediately stood up, adjusting his silk tie with a practiced, arrogant flourish.
“Your Honor, we move for immediate dismissal of all charges, as the prosecution’s evidence is entirely circumstantial and illegally obtained,” he declared.
Major Sterling stood up slowly, calmly buttoning his suit jacket before addressing the bench.
“Your Honor, the prosecution has physical evidence of treason, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit murder,” Sterling countered smoothly.
“Furthermore, the men who attempted to assassinate Commander Vance last night have officially turned state’s evidence,” he added, dropping a signed confession onto the judge’s desk.
Arthur’s face drained of all color, the aristocratic tan suddenly looking like a sickly pallor under the fluorescent lights.
He finally turned to look at me, his eyes wide with the realization that his infinite wealth could no longer buy his way out of the consequences.
I held his gaze without blinking, letting him see the cold, unyielding reflection of the ocean he had tried to drown me in.

“Motion to dismiss is denied, and in light of the attempted hit on a key witness, I am freezing all Vance Global assets effectively immediately,” Judge Rossi ruled.
The gavel fell like an executioner’s axe, and for the first time in his life, my father realized he was not the one holding the handle.
