Chapter 8 - The Data Fortress. The rain came down in relentless sheets, washing the neon reflections of the city streets into a blurred, chaotic mosaic.

I sat in the back of an unmarked tactical van, flanked by four elite operators that Admiral Reed had personally handpicked from Naval Special Warfare.
Major Sterling sat across from me, monitoring a glowing laptop screen that showed the blueprints of the target building.
“The data center is disguised as an abandoned textile warehouse on the edge of the industrial district,” Sterling explained, pointing to the schematic.
“Thermal imaging shows four armed hostiles patrolling the perimeter, and at least a dozen more inside the main server room,” he noted.
I racked the slide of my suppressed submachine gun, checking the chamber in the dim red light of the van’s interior.
“We go in fast, we go in quiet, and we do not engage unless fired upon,” I instructed the team, pulling my tactical mask over my face.
The van rolled to a silent stop in a dark alleyway behind the warehouse, the engine cutting out like a dying heartbeat.
We moved through the shadows with practiced precision, stacking up against the rusted steel door of the loading dock.
I input the biometric override codes Julian had given me into the keypad hidden behind a loose brick.
The heavy locking mechanism disengaged with a dull, satisfying clank, and we slipped into the cavernous, dimly lit interior.
Rows of towering, humming server racks stretched out before us, a digital graveyard holding the sins of a billionaire empire.
We navigated the labyrinth of blinking lights, our boots making absolutely no sound on the reinforced concrete floor.
Suddenly, the harsh glare of halogen floodlights snapped on, blinding us and completely eliminating our cover in the shadows.
“Drop your weapons, Commander,” a chilling, familiar voice echoed through the warehouse’s PA system.
I squinted through the blinding light, spotting Arthur’s head of security, a ruthless ex-mercenary named Kael, standing on the catwalk above.
He had a sniper rifle aimed squarely at my chest, and a dozen heavily armed guards stepped out from behind the server racks.
Julian’s intel hadn't been wrong, but my father had anticipated my brother’s inevitable betrayal and laid a brutal trap.
“Arthur sends his apologies, but he cannot allow you to leave this room with those hard drives,” Kael sneered, his finger tightening on the trigger.
“Funny,” I replied, my voice steady despite the adrenaline surging through my veins like liquid fire.
“I wasn't planning on taking the hard drives anywhere.”

I tapped a button on my wrist console, detonating the localized EMP charges my team had quietly planted along the main power conduits as we entered.
The entire warehouse plunged into absolute, pitch-black darkness, leveling the playing field in an instant.
