Chapter 4 - The Golden Boy Falls

Sunday morning was supposed to be the spectacular post-wedding brunch.

Preston and his new wife, Clara, had rented the hotel's luxury rooftop dining room.

Over a hundred guests were enjoying mimosas and imported caviar.

My parents were mingling, assuring everyone that last night's "incident" was resolved.

They had convinced the guests that I was currently in a psychiatric facility.

They were wrong.

At exactly 10:30 AM, the elevator doors chimed open.

Detective Miller stepped out.

He was flanked by four uniformed police officers.

The elegant chatter in the room instantly died.

Preston froze with a crystal champagne glass halfway to his lips.

Clara grabbed his arm in confusion.

"Preston Vance," Detective Miller announced, his voice echoing across the rooftop.

"You are under arrest for aggravated assault of a minor."

"You are also being charged with filing a false police report."

My father rushed forward, his face purple with outrage.

"This is an absolute outrage."

"Do you know who I am?"

"My son is a prominent businessman."

Detective Miller didn't even blink.

"Step back, sir, or you will be arrested for obstruction."

The officers grabbed Preston by his expensive tailored jacket.

They twisted his arms behind his back.

The sharp, metallic click of handcuffs echoed loudly through the silent room.

"This is a mistake!" Preston yelled, his voice cracking with panic.

"My sister is lying."

"She hates me."

"She made this up."

Detective Miller leaned in close to Preston's ear.

"We have the 4K security footage, Preston."

"We watched you plant the phone."

"We watched you try to kill a little girl."

Preston’s knees buckled.

The sheer arrogance completely drained from his face.

Clara screamed, dropping her glass as she backed away from her new husband.

The bride’s wealthy family watched in absolute horror.

They immediately realized they had married their daughter to a violent sociopath.

The police dragged Preston through the crowd.

The golden child was publicly paraded in handcuffs past his colleagues.

Past his friends.

May you like

Past his enabling parents.

His perfect life was over.
