Chapter 1: The Shattered Facade

Chapter 1: The Shattered Facade

Victor gasped for air, his perfectly tailored Italian suit now covered in the dust of his own humiliation. He looked up, wiping a streak of crimson from his upper lip, his eyes wide with a terror he had never known. The elite crowd—the senators, the CEOs, the socialites who had just been laughing at my expense—parted like the Red Sea.

Standing in the shattered doorway was Damian Vance.

He didn't yell. He didn't rush. He simply adjusted his obsidian cufflinks and walked toward us with the terrifying, predatory grace of a man who owned the very air we were breathing. I remained on my knees, but my chin was high. I caught Damian’s eye, and a microscopic nod passed between us. The trap had sprung flawlessly.

"You," Victor stammered, scrambling backward like a cornered rat. "Vance. You have no jurisdiction here. This is a private event!"

Damian finally stopped, looming over Victor. "Jurisdiction?" His voice was a low, guttural rumble that sent shivers through the room. "You put your hands on my wife. The only jurisdiction I need right now is a body bag."

He reached down, grabbing Victor by the collar of his ruined shirt, lifting him entirely off the floor. The crowd gasped, but no one moved. No security guard dared to step forward. I slowly stood up, brushing the dust from my knees. I didn't look at Victor with fear. I looked at him with absolute pity.

"I told you, Victor," I whispered, stepping right into his line of sight. "You were never the smartest person in the room. You were just the loudest."
