Chapter 4: The Backlash

The sunrise brought chaos. The news cycle erupted. The audio files had been leaked not just to the authorities, but anonymously to every major news outlet in the country. The headline across the city’s largest paper read: THE FALL OF A TITAN: FRAUD, ABUSE, AND THE BILLION-DOLLAR LIE.

My phone buzzed relentlessly. Death threats from Victor’s loyalists, panicked voicemails from former 'friends' trying to distance themselves, and demands for statements from the press.

Damian’s security team had the estate locked down tightly. We sat in the kitchen, drinking black coffee while watching the live broadcast of the FBI raiding Victor’s corporate headquarters. Agents carried out boxes of hard drives and documents.

"They’re trying to freeze his assets," Damian noted, watching the ticker at the bottom of the screen. "But Victor is sneaky. He has dummy corporations in the Caymans."

"Not anymore," I smirked, sliding my tablet across the island to him. "While I was downloading the audio files, I also injected a tracking worm into his private server. I know exactly where the money is moving. And I’ve already forwarded the routing numbers to the lead investigator."

Damian stared at the screen, then looked up at me, an unmistakable look of awe in his eyes. "You really didn't need me to rescue you last night, did you?"

"I needed a distraction," I admitted, offering a small smile. "And a dramatic entrance. You provided both flawlessly."
