Chapter 7: The Confrontation
"You ruined your own life, Victor," I replied, my voice steady and cold, echoing through the empty warehouse. "I just turned on the lights."
He laughed, a manic, desperate sound. "You think you've won? You think you can just walk away from me?" He reached into his coat.
Damian was faster. In a blur of motion, he drew his weapon and leveled it at Victor’s chest. "Take your hand out of your coat. Slowly."
Victor froze, but a sickening grin spread across his face. He pulled his hand out, revealing a small, black detonator. "I knew you’d track me. I knew you couldn't resist coming to gloat. This building is rigged. You take me down, we all go down."
My heart hammered against my ribs, but I forced myself to maintain eye contact with Victor. I knew him. I knew his cowardice. He loved himself far too much to die in a dirty warehouse.
"You're lying," I said softly, stepping in front of Damian’s gun.

"Serena, get back," Damian warned, his voice tight with tension.
"Look at his hand, Damian," I pointed. Victor’s hand was shaking violently. "He’s a narcissist. He doesn't want to die. He wants leverage." I took another step toward Victor. "Press it, Victor. Do it. If you're going to kill us, press the button."
