Chapter 5: The Grand Hyatt Revelation

Chapter 5: The Grand Hyatt Revelation

The Grand Hyatt San Francisco had never seen security like this.

Hours before the gala officially began, black SUVs surrounded the hotel. Secret Service agents coordinated with private security teams while local police redirected traffic for several blocks.

Guests arriving at the entrance immediately understood that this was no ordinary corporate event.

Fortune 500 CEOs.

Wall Street billionaires.

Silicon Valley founders.

United States senators.

Foreign ambassadors.

Some of the most influential people in the world gathered beneath one roof.

The invitation had contained only one line that truly mattered:

"Join us as Apex Corporation welcomes its new Supreme Chairman."

No name.

No photograph.

Only mystery.

And mystery attracted power.

Victoria stepped out of her silver Bentley wearing a midnight-blue couture gown that shimmered beneath hundreds of camera flashes.

Diamond earrings framed her face.

Her hair was flawlessly styled.

From the outside, she looked every bit the successful executive.

Inside...

She was terrified.

A reporter hurried toward her.

"Ms. Sterling!"

"Is it true Apex canceled every contract with Sterling Group?"

Another microphone appeared.

"Are rumors of bankruptcy accurate?"

A third reporter shouted,

"Do you believe the new Chairman can save your company?"

Victoria forced a practiced smile.

"We're looking forward to meeting Apex's new leadership."

"No further comments."

She walked inside before anyone could ask another question.

Her confidence lasted exactly three seconds.

The ballroom was unlike anything she had ever seen.

Crystal chandeliers stretched across the ceiling like frozen waterfalls.

Fresh orchids decorated every table.

An orchestra played beneath soft golden lights.

Every guest wore expressions of excitement mixed with curiosity.

No one knew who they were waiting for.

Across the room, Harrison Hunt entered through a side entrance.

He had somehow managed to avoid reporters.

His expensive suit concealed the panic consuming him.

His father's arrest dominated every news channel.

His own accounts remained frozen.

Several longtime friends deliberately turned away the moment they saw him.

One investment banker quietly whispered to another,

"Stay away from him."

"The FBI is probably watching."

Harrison heard every word.

For the first time in years...

He understood what isolation felt like.

Victoria finally spotted him.

"Harrison."

He looked exhausted.

"You made it."

"Barely."

"Any news?"

He shook his head.

"My lawyers say we need a miracle."

Victoria looked toward the massive stage.

"Maybe tonight is that miracle."

Neither of them noticed several executives nearby quietly watching the conversation.

Everyone knew the Sterling family was desperate.

Desperation had a way of becoming entertainment among the wealthy.

Near the front of the ballroom, the Apex executive team gathered in complete silence.

The company's CEO repeatedly checked his watch.

Board members stood perfectly straight.

No one dared sit.

Victoria frowned.

"They're acting like royalty is arriving."

One executive standing nearby quietly answered,

"In a way..."

"...royalty is."

Before Victoria could ask what he meant...

The ballroom lights dimmed.

The orchestra stopped playing.

Every conversation ended instantly.

A single spotlight illuminated the stage.

The Apex CEO stepped to the podium.

"Ladies and gentlemen..."

"It is my honor to welcome you tonight."

Polite applause filled the room.

"For decades..."

"Apex Corporation has pursued innovation, integrity, and excellence."

"But tonight..."

"...marks the beginning of a new era."

The audience leaned forward.

"Our new Chairman is not merely an investor."

"He is not merely a businessman."

"He is a visionary whose influence spans industries..."

"...and continents."

A giant screen behind him displayed only a single silver crest.

Most guests didn't recognize it.

A few did.

Those few suddenly looked stunned.

One elderly billionaire whispered,

"It can't be..."

Another quietly stood.

A senator straightened his tie.

Several foreign executives exchanged uneasy glances.

Victoria noticed the strange reactions.

"What is that symbol?"

Harrison frowned.

"I don't know."

Neither of them realized they were among the very few people in the ballroom who had never seen the Vance crest.

The CEO continued.

"Many of you have spent years wondering who truly stood behind Apex Corporation."

He smiled.

"Tonight..."

"...you finally have your answer."

He stepped away from the podium.

The ballroom fell completely silent.

Then...

An elderly gentleman wearing an immaculate black tuxedo walked onto the stage.

Silver hair.

Perfect posture.

Calm eyes.

Silas.

Those who recognized him immediately rose to their feet.

Others followed without understanding why.

Within seconds...

Every person in the ballroom was standing.

Victoria looked around in confusion.

"Who is he?"

Harrison quietly asked the same question.

Silas reached the center of the stage.

He bowed slightly.

His voice echoed clearly through the ballroom.

"Ladies and gentlemen..."

"Thank you for joining us."

"For three years..."

"Our Chairman chose to remain hidden from the world."

"He wished to live an ordinary life."

"He wished to discover who valued character over wealth."

Silence filled the room.

Silas continued.

"Unfortunately..."

"The world disappointed him."

Victoria felt an inexplicable chill.

"Tonight..."

"The Chairman resumes the position that has always belonged to him."

He turned toward the enormous entrance doors.

Every spotlight followed.

Every guest instinctively looked in the same direction.

The doors slowly opened.

Two rows of impeccably dressed security officers entered first.

Behind them walked senior executives from companies worth hundreds of billions of dollars.

Then governors.

Then ambassadors.

Each person stepped aside.

Creating a path.

Waiting.

Finally...

A tall man in a perfectly tailored black Tom Ford tuxedo appeared beneath the lights.

His movements were calm.

Confident.

Unhurried.

The entire ballroom stopped breathing.

Victoria's champagne glass slipped from her trembling fingers.

It shattered across the marble floor.

"No..."

She whispered.

"Impossible..."

Harrison's face turned completely white.

He stumbled backward.

Every color drained from Evelyn's face.

"Ethan..."

The man they had publicly humiliated...

The man they had called worthless...

The man they had forced to serve drinks only two nights earlier...

Walked forward as if he owned the entire world.

Because he did.

Silas lowered his head.

Then, in front of the most powerful people in North America...

He spoke the words that shattered the Sterling family's last illusion.

"Please welcome..."

His voice rang through the silent ballroom.

"...Lord Ethan Vance."

Thunderous applause erupted.

Business legends.

Political leaders.

International billionaires.

One after another...

They bowed their heads in respect.

Victoria could only stare.

The husband she had slapped...

Was the most powerful man in the room.

May you like

And she had just realized...

She had never truly known him at all.
