Daniel had paid Melissa to alter medical records.
But neither had ordered the brutal assault inside the suite.
That command came from someone else.
Edward refused to speak until Grace was stable.
Marcus followed him into a consultation room.
“You have hidden enough.”
Edward sat heavily.
“The order came from someone inside Khloe’s family.”
Marcus thought of Adrian.
Then immediately rejected the idea.
Adrian had saved Khloe’s life.
“Who?”
“Khloe’s father.”
Khloe had rarely spoken about Jonathan Hayes.
He left when she was ten years old.
Her mother told her he had chosen another family.
Khloe believed he died overseas twelve years later.
Edward opened the archive files.
Jonathan Hayes had never died.
He worked as a private investigator for Samuel Voss.
Later, Victoria paid him to gather information on Marcus.
Jonathan discovered the hidden trust and learned that Khloe’s child would control the evidence.
He decided to take the inheritance for himself.
“He contacted Isabella?”
Marcus asked.
“He promised she would become your wife.”
“He told her Khloe’s death would free you.”
“Where is he?”
Edward looked toward the corridor.
“Closer than you think.”
Adrian entered carrying Khloe’s childhood medical records.
His expression was dark.
“I checked Melissa’s access logs.”
“Someone used my authorization code before she altered Khloe’s toxicology results.”
“Only two people knew that code.”
“One was Melissa.”
“The other was my brother.”
Khloe’s father.
Marcus returned to her room.
She listened without interrupting.
When Edward finished, she stared at the ceiling.
“My father left because he was protecting me.”
“That is what my mother said.”
“It was another lie.”
Adrian sat beside her.
“Jonathan contacted me two years ago.”
“He asked about your pregnancy plans.”
“I thought he wanted to reconnect.”
Khloe’s voice became cold.
“He wanted to know when the trust would activate.”
Detective Brooks searched Jonathan’s records.
His last known address was a townhouse owned by Isabella’s family.
Police found the property empty.
On the dining table were photographs of Khloe taken over six months.
At restaurants.
At medical appointments.
Inside her own home.
One photograph showed Jonathan standing beside Isabella on the night of the charity gala.
Another showed him entering the hospital wearing an event security uniform.
The final image had been taken inside the neonatal unit.
