Chapter 6 - KHLOE’S SECRET MEETINGKhloe regained consciousness fully the following morning.
The first thing she asked about was the baby.
Adrian explained that her daughter was alive but fragile.
Khloe cried silently.
Marcus stood beside the window, afraid to approach her.
When she finally looked at him, her eyes held exhaustion rather than comfort.
“You did not believe me.”
Marcus did not defend himself.
“No.”
“You invited Isabella into our home.”
“Yes.”
“You told me she was only a family friend.”
“Yes.”
“You made me apologize to her.”
Marcus swallowed.
“Yes.”
Khloe turned her face away.
“I need to see my daughter.”
Adrian arranged for her bed to be moved near the neonatal unit.
Before they left, Marcus asked the question Victoria had planted inside him.
“Did you meet Daniel last month?”
Khloe looked at him.
“Yes.”
The answer struck harder than Marcus expected.
“Why?”
“Because Daniel came to me.”
She asked Adrian to retrieve her handbag.
Inside was a small digital recorder.
Khloe pressed play.
Daniel’s voice filled the room.
Victoria is planning to remove Marcus.
She is using Isabella to create a scandal.
I can help you stop them.
Marcus listened as Khloe refused to participate.
Then Daniel offered her ten million dollars to divorce Marcus and leave the country before the baby was born.
When she rejected him, his tone changed.
You may not have a choice.
Khloe stopped the recording.
“I was gathering evidence.”
“Why did you not tell me?”
“I tried.”
She looked directly at him.
“You told me Daniel had earned your trust.”
“You said I was becoming paranoid.”
“You said my fear was embarrassing you.”
Marcus lowered his head.
There was nothing he could say.
Khloe had not betrayed him.
She had fought alone because he had abandoned her emotionally long before Isabella attacked her physically.
Detective Brooks entered with new information.
Daniel Voss had disappeared.
His office had been emptied overnight.
Twenty-seven million dollars had been transferred from a Thorne Global reserve account.
The board meeting had been canceled.
“Where would he go?”
Marcus asked.
Khloe answered before Brooks could.
“He has a private aircraft registered through a company in Delaware.”
Brooks checked her phone.
“The plane filed a flight plan for Switzerland.”
Marcus moved toward the door.
Brooks stopped him.
“There is more.”
Daniel had left a message on Marcus’s private voicemail.
Marcus played it.
“Your mother thinks she is in control.”
“She is wrong.”
“Ask her what happened to your father.”
The recording ended.
Marcus stared at the phone.
