Chapter 10: From Maid to Matriarch
Two Years Later.
The grand staircase of the Sterling Mansion was adorned with cascading white roses and orchids. The heavy mahogany doors were open, letting in the warm summer breeze.
Maya stood at the top of the steps, adjusting the delicate lace of her Vera Wang wedding gown. She wasn't a maid, and she wasn't an assistant. She was the Director of the newly established Sterling Foundation for Community Development, a program fully funded by Alexander to help low-income students achieve their dreams without the crushing weight of debt.
Down below, standing at the altar, was Alexander. He looked up, his sharp gray eyes softening entirely as they locked onto her. Next to him, sitting in an ornate wheelchair but beaming with joy, was his grandmother, holding the velvet box containing the wedding rings.
As the string quartet began to play, Maya took her first step down the marble staircase. She remembered the day she had stood on these very steps, ready to lose everything to defend a defenseless woman. She had expected cruelty, but instead, she had found her destiny.

It was the ultimate victory.
