CHAPTER 9 THE BETRAYAL INSIDE THE WHITMORE HOUSE

CHAPTER 9 THE BETRAYAL INSIDE THE WHITMORE HOUSE

The words from Daniel Reeves remained in the air.

“The person who gave Theodore access to the family records is still inside this mansion.”

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Because everyone understood what that meant.

The enemy was not someone from the past.

The enemy was someone who had been standing beside them.

Someone who had shared their meals.

Someone who had attended their celebrations.

Someone who knew every secret of the Whitmore family.

Eleanor looked around the room.

Her eyes moved from one person to another.

For the first time in decades...

She did not know who she could trust.

That feeling terrified her more than anything.

She had fought against business rivals.

She had defeated competitors.

She had survived financial wars.

But she had never imagined the greatest threat would come from inside her own family.

“My house was never safe.”

Her voice was quiet.

Thomas looked at her.

“Eleanor...”

She shook her head.

“No.”

She looked at the people around her.

“Someone in this family helped destroy my daughter’s life.”

Theodore watched them carefully.

A small smile appeared on his face.

Because he enjoyed seeing them turn against each other.

That was always his greatest weapon.

Not money.

Not influence.

Fear.

“Look at you.”

His voice was calm.

“The Whitmores always believed they were untouchable.”

He looked at Eleanor.

“But you never realized the greatest enemy was sitting at your own table.”

Alexander stepped forward.

“Enough.”

Theodore looked at him.

“You still defend a family that lied to you.”

Alexander's face hardened.

“You kidnapped my sister.”

Theodore smiled.

“Sister?”

He looked at Isabella.

“Interesting.”

The room became silent.

Because even after everything...

That word still felt strange.

Sister.

Isabella stood beside Eleanor.

She still felt overwhelmed.

A few hours ago, she was Isabella Hart.

An ordinary art restorer.

Now...

She was Lily Whitmore.

The missing daughter.

The rightful heir.

A person connected to decades of secrets.

But one thing was clear.

She did not want revenge.

She wanted the truth.

“Who helped you?”

She asked Theodore.

Theodore looked at her.

“Why?”

“Because I want to know who else destroyed my life.”

For a moment...

Theodore smiled.

“You really are Eleanor's daughter.”

Theodore refused to answer.

Instead, he looked at Richard.

“You were always weak.”

Richard lowered his head.

“I was wrong.”

Theodore laughed.

“Thirty years too late.”

Richard looked at Isabella.

“I should have protected you.”

Isabella stared at him.

“You should have told the truth.”

“I know.”

His voice was filled with regret.

“And I will spend the rest of my life paying for that mistake.”

At the Whitmore mansion...

The investigation began immediately.

Daniel examined the family records.

Thomas reviewed old financial documents.

Eleanor searched through personal letters.

They needed one thing.

Evidence.

Not accusations.

Not guesses.

Proof.

Because whoever helped Theodore was powerful enough to erase records for thirty years.

Alexander walked into the old office.

The room belonged to his father.

William Whitmore.

He had avoided entering it since his father's death.

Too many memories.

Too many questions.

But now...

He needed answers.

He opened the desk drawers.

Most were empty.

Then he noticed something.

A small hidden compartment.

He pressed the side panel.

A drawer opened.

Inside was a single envelope.

His hands trembled.

Because the envelope had his name on it.

Alexander.

He opened it.

Inside was a letter.

His father's handwriting.

His heart began beating faster.

"My son, if you are reading this, then the truth has finally returned."

Alexander continued reading.

"There are things about your family that I never had the courage to tell you."

He stopped.

Then read the next line.

"Your uncle Theodore was not the person who planned Lily's disappearance."

Alexander froze.

“What?”

He continued.

"He was only a tool."

Alexander rushed back to the others.

“Everyone needs to see this.”

They gathered around.

Eleanor took the letter.

Her hands shook as she read.

William's words continued.

"The person controlling Theodore was someone closer than anyone could imagine."

Thomas frowned.

“Who?”

Eleanor continued reading.

Then her face changed.

Because the next sentence destroyed everything.

"The person who ordered Lily's disappearance was someone I loved."

Nobody spoke.

The room felt frozen.

Alexander looked at his mother.

“Who?”

Eleanor slowly lowered the letter.

“I don't know.”

But Daniel noticed something.

The letter was incomplete.

A page was missing.

Someone had removed the most important part.

Suddenly...

The mansion security alarm activated.

Again.

Everyone immediately became alert.

A guard rushed inside.

“Mrs. Whitmore.”

Eleanor turned.

“What happened?”

“The person who broke into the vault returned.”

Thomas stood.

“What did they take?”

The guard looked nervous.

“Nothing.”

Everyone looked confused.

“Then why did the alarm activate?”

The guard swallowed.

“Because they left something.”

The guard handed Eleanor a small package.

No name.

No address.

Only one symbol.

The same symbol from the jade pendant.

Eleanor opened it carefully.

Inside was an old photograph.

Everyone gathered around.

The picture showed four people.

Young Eleanor.

Young William.

Theodore.

And another person.

A person whose face had been scratched out.

Isabella looked at the damaged photograph.

“Who is that?”

Nobody answered.

Then Daniel noticed something written on the back.

A message.

Three words.

His expression changed.

“What does it say?”

Daniel turned the photograph around.

Everyone read it.

"Your real enemy survived."

Suddenly...

The mansion lights went out.

Again.

A pattern.

A warning.

Someone was inside.

Someone who wanted them to know they were being watched.

Alexander grabbed a flashlight.

“Everyone stay together.”

A noise came from the hallway.

Footsteps.

Slow.

Confident.

Someone was approaching.

Eleanor whispered:

“Whoever it is...”

She looked at Isabella.

“They know you are here.”

The footsteps stopped outside the room.

The door handle slowly moved.

Everyone prepared themselves.

The door opened.

And standing there...

Was a woman.

An elderly woman.

A woman nobody expected to see.

Because Eleanor recognized her immediately.

Her face turned pale.

“No...”

The woman smiled.

“Hello, Eleanor.”

A long silence followed.

Then Eleanor whispered the name she had not spoken for thirty years.

“Margaret Whitmore.”

Isabella looked confused.

“Who is she?”

Eleanor stared at the woman.

“The person who disappeared the same night you did.”

The woman smiled.

May you like

“And the person who knows the entire truth.”
