Chapter 15: The Daughter Who Vanished

Chapter 15: The Daughter Who Vanished

The photograph remained on Evelyn's phone.

A woman.

Older.

Different.

But unmistakably connected to the past.

Amelia Cross.

The daughter Alexander Cross had erased from history.

The sister Damian never knew existed.

The woman who held the missing piece of a twenty-year-old mystery.

For several seconds, nobody spoke.

The abandoned factory seemed frozen in time.

The only sound was the low hum of the old security systems Richard Vale had secretly maintained for years.

Evelyn slowly lowered the phone.

"She's alive."

Richard nodded.

"Yes."

Jonathan looked stunned.

"How?"

Richard walked toward the old archive shelves.

"Because Alexander made sure she disappeared before Victor Kane could find her."

"Who is Victor Kane?"

Agent Brooks asked.

Richard's expression darkened.

"The man who taught Damian everything."

"The man who turned ambition into obsession."

"The man who believed Alexander Cross's empire belonged to him."

Richard pulled out another folder.

Inside were old documents.

Birth certificates.

Corporate records.

Private correspondence.

Evelyn opened the first page.

Her eyes widened.

"These were hidden?"

Richard nodded.

"Alexander deleted Amelia's identity from every public database."

"Every company record."

"Every legal document."

Jonathan frowned.

"That would be impossible."

Richard looked at him.

"Not for Alexander Cross."

A pause.

"He built the system."

The truth began unfolding piece by piece.

Twenty years earlier...

Alexander Cross had two children.

Damian.

And Amelia.

Damian was the son everyone knew.

The heir.

The future CEO.

The public face.

But Amelia was different.

She was quiet.

Analytical.

A natural strategist.

Alexander believed she had the ability to lead.

And Victor Kane noticed.

"Victor worked for your father?"

Evelyn asked.

Richard nodded.

"He was Alexander's closest advisor."

"He knew every weakness."

"Every secret."

"He knew Amelia was the true successor."

Jonathan's face changed.

"So he targeted her."

"Exactly."

Richard opened another document.

A police report.

Missing person.

Twenty years old.

Name:

Amelia Grace Cross

But the case had been closed quickly.

Too quickly.

"Alexander believed she ran away."

Richard said quietly.

"But I knew better."

"Why?"

"Because I found evidence."

He placed another photograph on the table.

A young Amelia standing beside a car.

Next to her...

Victor Kane.

Evelyn stared.

"He was involved."

Richard nodded.

"Yes."

"But Alexander never had enough proof."

"He couldn't accuse his own trusted advisor without risking everything."

Agent Brooks studied the evidence.

"Why didn't Alexander go to the police?"

Richard looked at her.

"Because Victor had already infiltrated everything."

"The police."

"The banks."

"The company."

"The media."

A pause.

"Alexander wasn't fighting an enemy."

"He was fighting someone who had become part of his world."

At that moment...

Damian Cross was watching the same evidence.

From the detention center.

Because Agent Brooks had authorized him to view selected files.

Not because she trusted him.

Because she needed information.

Damian stared at the photograph of Amelia.

His sister.

His expression was unreadable.

"My entire life..."

He whispered.

"...was a lie."

Victoria Hale sat across from him.

"Your father wanted to tell you."

Damian looked up.

"Then why didn't he?"

"Because every time he tried..."

She paused.

"Victor made sure he couldn't."

Damian stood.

"What does that mean?"

Victoria looked away.

"Your father's death wasn't natural."

Silence.

The room seemed to stop.

"What?"

Victoria slid another file across the table.

A medical report.

Damian read it.

His hands slowly tightened.

"Heart attack."

"That's what everyone believed."

Victoria said.

"But Alexander had been preparing to expose Victor."

She pointed at the report.

"Three weeks before his death, someone altered his medication."

Damian sat back.

His entire reality shifted.

His father's death.

The company.

His obsession with power.

Everything.

Maybe it wasn't random.

Maybe he had been manipulated from the beginning.

Back at the abandoned factory...

Richard turned toward Evelyn.

"There is one more thing."

She looked at him.

"What?"

"Amelia didn't disappear alone."

Her expression changed.

"What do you mean?"

Richard hesitated.

"She had a child."

Silence.

Jonathan looked confused.

"Another Cross?"

Richard nodded.

"Yes."

Evelyn's eyes widened.

"Alexander had a granddaughter?"

Richard nodded.

"Someone Victor spent twenty years trying to find."

A cold feeling moved through Evelyn.

"Why?"

Richard answered:

"Because that child inherited something."

"What?"

"The original Cross family ownership rights."

Everyone became silent.

The implication was enormous.

The person Victor Kane had been searching for wasn't just family.

She was the final piece of control over the Cross empire.

Suddenly...

The factory lights went out.

Darkness swallowed the room.

Security alarms started screaming.

Agent Brooks immediately drew her weapon.

"Everyone down!"

A single sound echoed.

Footsteps.

Slow.

Confident.

Approaching from the darkness.

Then a man's voice filled the room.

"Richard."

Everyone froze.

Richard's face changed.

Because he recognized the voice.

"No..."

The man stepped into the light.

Older.

Gray hair.

Cold eyes.

A calm smile.

Victor Kane.

Alive.

"You always were sentimental, Richard."

Victor looked around the room.

"Gathering everyone together."

His eyes landed on Evelyn.

"Especially you."

Evelyn stood still.

"You."

Victor smiled.

"Yes."

"The woman who destroyed Damian."

"The woman who took Alexander's empire."

"The woman who thinks she won."

Agent Brooks raised her weapon.

"Victor Kane."

He smiled.

"Agent Brooks."

"You are under arrest."

Victor laughed softly.

"No."

A pause.

"You still don't understand."

He looked at Evelyn.

"I didn't come here to run."

"I came here because I wanted you to find the truth."

Jonathan frowned.

"Why?"

Victor's smile disappeared.

"Because Alexander made one final mistake."

"What?"

"He chose Evelyn."

Silence.

Victor stepped closer.

"And I wanted to see if the woman he trusted..."

"...was really worthy."

Evelyn stared at him.

"Where is Amelia?"

For the first time...

Victor's expression changed.

A small flicker of emotion.

"Still protecting her mother."

Everyone froze.

Jonathan whispered:

"Her mother?"

Victor looked directly at Evelyn.

"Yes."

"Because Amelia Cross..."

"...is not the only secret Alexander left behind."

He reached into his coat.

Removed a photograph.

And handed it toward Evelyn.

Her hands trembled as she looked at it.

Because the woman in the photograph...

Was someone she knew.

Someone she had met.

Someone who had been close to her for years.

Evelyn's face turned pale.

"No..."

Victor smiled.

"Now you understand."

"The biggest secret Alexander Cross ever protected..."

"Was never Amelia."

A pause.

"It was who her daughter became."

The photograph slipped from Evelyn's fingers.

May you like

Because written on the back were three words:

HER NAME IS EVELYN.
