Chapter 12: The Enemy Behind the Empire

Chapter 12: The Enemy Behind the Empire

Victor Hale had spent thirty years creating the perfect image.

A generous businessman.

A respected philanthropist.

A man who donated millions to hospitals and universities.

Nobody suspected the truth.

Because powerful people rarely looked dangerous.

They looked impressive.

That evening, Victor sat inside his private office overlooking the city.

Ryan entered.

And immediately knew something was wrong.

“You failed.”

Victor didn’t even look up.

“I gave you one simple task.”

Ryan tightened his jaw.

“I almost had control.”

“Almost.”

Victor finally turned.

“You married Leah Carter for years, and you still underestimated her.”

Ryan remained silent.

Victor walked closer.

“You were supposed to make her trust you.”

“I did.”

“No.”

Victor smiled coldly.

“You made her love you.”

Ryan looked away.

The words bothered him.

Because deep down, he knew Victor was right.

He had started the marriage as an assignment.

But somewhere along the way…

Something changed.

And he hated himself for it.

Victor noticed.

“Don’t tell me you developed feelings.”

Ryan said nothing.

Victor laughed.

“That is your weakness.”

Ryan looked at him.

“She’s dangerous.”

“No.”

Victor corrected him.

“She’s determined.”

He walked toward the window.

“Determined people can be controlled.”

Ryan frowned.

“What are you planning?”

Victor smiled.

“Removing the last obstacle.”

“Leah?”

“No.”

Victor looked at him.

“You.”

Ryan froze.

For the first time, he understood.

Victor never planned to save him.

He planned to sacrifice him.

Meanwhile, Leah and Ethan continued searching through the files.

Then they found something unexpected.

A hidden recording.

Created by Michael Carter.

Leah pressed play.

Her father appeared on screen.

“If you are watching this, it means I failed.”

Leah immediately covered her mouth.

Her father continued.

“But if Leah found this, then she is ready.”

Ethan stared.

“Ready for what?”

The video continued.

“Leah, the Whitmores are not your greatest enemy.”

A pause.

“Your greatest enemy is the person who taught them everything.”

Leah leaned closer.

“Victor Hale.”

The room became silent.

Her father knew.

He knew everything.

“And Leah…”

Her father looked directly into the camera.

“There is something you must know about your birth.”

The video stopped.

A corrupted file appeared.

Ethan tried opening it.

Nothing.

Leah stared at the screen.

“My birth?”

Evelyn looked terrified.

May you like

Because she knew exactly what was hidden.

And she had spent twenty-five years trying to keep it buried.
