Chapter 17: The Father Who Was Erased From History

Chapter 17: The Father Who Was Erased From History

For twenty-five years, Leah Carter believed she had no father.

She believed the only memories she had were the ones left behind in old photographs.

A smiling man.

A loving father.

A person who disappeared before she was old enough to remember him.

But now he stood in front of her.

Alive.

Older.

Broken by years of suffering.

Yet still her father.

The entire world watched as Daniel Hale looked at his daughter.

Neither of them moved.

Neither of them knew what to say.

Finally, Leah whispered:

“Is it really you?”

Daniel’s eyes filled with tears.

“Yes.”

Her knees almost gave out.

All the anger.

All the confusion.

All the years of unanswered questions came rushing back.

“Why didn’t you come back?”

Daniel lowered his head.

“Because I couldn’t.”

“You couldn’t?”

His voice broke.

“Victor made sure I disappeared.”

The room became silent.

Victor stood nearby, watching.

Still confident.

Still believing he controlled everything.

But Daniel looked at him differently.

Not with fear.

With hatred.

“You ruined everyone’s lives.”

Victor smiled.

“And yet you’re still alive.”

Daniel stepped forward.

“Because you needed me.”

Leah looked between them.

“What does that mean?”

Daniel looked at her.

“Victor needed my knowledge.”

“About what?”

“The Carter Foundation.”

Leah frowned.

Daniel continued.

“Your father discovered that Victor wasn’t just stealing money.”

“He was building an empire based on control.”

“He owned politicians, executives, banks, and even law enforcement officials.”

Ethan looked shocked.

“So all these years…”

Daniel nodded.

“Victor wasn’t hiding from justice.”

“He was controlling it.”

Victor finally spoke.

“Enough.”

Everyone turned.

His calm expression was disappearing.

“You think one old man and some files can destroy me?”

Leah stepped forward.

“No.”

She looked at him.

“But the truth can.”

Victor laughed.

“The truth?”

He looked around.

“People don’t care about truth.”

“They care about power.”

Then he looked at Ryan.

“And Ryan knows that better than anyone.”

Ryan stayed silent.

Because he knew Victor was trying to divide them.

But this time, it didn’t work.

“I spent my whole life becoming someone you wanted me to be,” Ryan said.

Victor looked surprised.

“And now?”

Ryan looked at Leah.

“Now I decide who I am.”

It was the first time Ryan had ever chosen something for himself.

Not because of money.

Not because of fear.

But because he finally understood the damage he caused.

Victor’s expression hardened.

“You think redemption changes anything?”

Ryan looked at him.

“No.”

A pause.

“But stopping you does.”

Suddenly, alarms began ringing.

Victor looked toward the security system.

“What did you do?”

Daniel smiled slightly.

“I sent the evidence.”

Victor froze.

“To who?”

May you like

Daniel answered:

“Everyone.”
