Chapter 5: The Secret Vanessa Never Expected

Chapter 5: The Secret Vanessa Never Expected

Vanessa stopped pretending.

The sweet smile disappeared.

The innocent expression vanished.

For the first time, I saw who she really was.

"You think I planned all this?"

Her voice was different now.

Sharper.

More confident.

I looked at her.

"Didn't you?"

She laughed.

"You have no idea what Grant told me."

I didn't respond.

Because I already knew.

Men like Grant always followed the same pattern.

They created a story where they were the victim.

Where their wife was cold.

Where their marriage was broken.

Where another woman wasn't destroying a family.

She was saving a man.

Vanessa walked toward me.

"He said you didn't care about him."

I stayed silent.

"He said you cared more about your missions than your daughter."

My fingers tightened around Lily.

Vanessa continued.

"He said you were emotionally unavailable."

I looked at Grant.

He looked uncomfortable.

"He told me you were going to leave him eventually."

I smiled.

"Did he tell you why?"

Vanessa hesitated.

"No."

"Because he needed you to believe that."

I stepped closer.

"Because if you knew the truth, you would never have helped him."

Vanessa's eyes narrowed.

"What truth?"

I looked at Daniel.

He handed me another folder.

I opened it.

Inside were photographs.

Bank transfers.

Messages.

Contracts.

I placed them on the table.

"Grant wasn't building a new life with you."

Vanessa looked down.

"He was preparing an escape."

Her face changed.

"What?"

"He planned to move company assets overseas."

Grant immediately stepped forward.

"That's a lie."

Daniel interrupted.

"The documents are verified."

I continued.

"He wasn't leaving me for you."

I looked at Vanessa.

"He was leaving because he thought he could steal everything and disappear."

The color drained from her face.

For the first time, Vanessa looked scared.

"But he promised me—"

She stopped.

Too late.

Everyone heard it.

My father looked at her.

"Promised you what?"

Vanessa said nothing.

Grant glared at her.

"You need to leave."

She turned.

Slowly.

"You used me."

His silence answered.

Vanessa laughed bitterly.

"All those nights you told me Evelyn didn't understand you..."

She shook her head.

"You were just using me."

Grant said nothing.

And that was the moment Vanessa realized.

She had destroyed another woman's life trying to steal a man who never planned to give her anything.

I picked up Lily.

"Come on, sweetheart."

As I walked upstairs, I heard Vanessa whisper:

"Evelyn."

I stopped.

She looked at me.

"Why aren't you angry?"

I looked back.

"I am."

"Then why are you calm?"

I held Lily tighter.

"Because angry people make mistakes."

May you like

I paused.

"And I want everyone responsible to remember every second of what happens next."
