The lock on the vault was old, and Rosa's hands shook as she picked it with a pair of tension wrenches Daniel had provided. The door clicked open. Rows of dusty manila folders lined the shelves. She scanned the labels frantically. Valdez, Vallejo, Vargas.
She pulled the thick file and opened it. Inside rested the gold-embossed marriage certificate of Elena and the true Valdés heir, alongside a notarized will declaring their unborn child the sole inheritor of the family's assets. A wave of profound relief washed over her.

Suddenly, a cold metal barrel pressed against the back of her head. "Did you really think it would be that easy, Rosa?" a smooth, cruel voice whispered. It was Mateo, Alejandro’s chief enforcer.
Before Mateo could pull the trigger, Daniel dropped from the ceiling ventilation shaft, driving his combat knife into Mateo's shoulder. The enforcer roared, dropping the gun. Rosa scrambled away, clutching the file to her chest, as Daniel engaged his former comrade in a brutal, silent struggle. With a final, sickening crack, Daniel incapacitated Mateo. "Run!" Daniel hissed, wiping blood from his face.
