Chapter 11 - VICTOR'S WARNING
Victor contacted Sarah that afternoon.
He refused to meet at a police station.
Instead, he chose a public café.
Emma arrived with Sarah.
Victor was already sitting in the corner.
He looked exhausted.
"You were investigating us," Emma said.
Victor nodded.
"I was."
"Who hired you?"
"Margaret."
Emma's jaw tightened.
Victor continued.
"But I stopped working for her."
"Why?"
Victor looked at Sarah.
"Because I found something she didn't want anyone to see."
He handed Emma a small flash drive.
"What is this?"
"Copies of the original records."
Emma stared at him.
Victor explained that Margaret had ordered him to find the other child and destroy any evidence connecting Lily to the trust.
But during his investigation, he discovered that Daniel's father had been involved in the original cover-up.
Victor couldn't continue.
"I have a daughter," he said.
"I couldn't do this to another child."
Emma understood.
"Where's the original?"
Victor looked toward the window.
"Safe."
"Where?"
He shook his head.
"Not yet."
Sarah frowned.
"Victor."
He leaned closer.
"If I tell you now, they'll come for it."
Emma felt a chill.
"Who?"
Victor didn't answer.
Instead, he said:
"Your husband isn't the person you should be watching."
Emma looked at Daniel, who was waiting outside.
"Who should I watch?"
Victor looked directly at her.
"Your mother-in-law."
Emma already knew.
But hearing it confirmed made the fear real.
Victor stood.
"Get Lily somewhere safe."
Then he walked away.
Emma watched him disappear into the crowd.
Sarah picked up the flash drive.
"We'll analyze this."
Emma nodded.
Her phone suddenly vibrated.
A text message appeared.
Unknown Number:
YOU SHOULD HAVE LEFT THE HOUSE WHEN YOU HAD THE CHANCE.
Emma stared at the screen.

Then another message arrived.
WE KNOW WHERE LILY IS.
