The car pulled away from the museum, navigating through the chaotic streets of the city.
I opened my clutch, took out a compact mirror, and inspected my face. The bruise was dark, ugly, and painful. But it would heal.
My phone buzzed with a message from my lead attorney.
The board of the Hawthorne Foundation has been formally dissolved by the SEC. As the primary shareholder, full legal control of the assets defaults to you. The Vale name is restored.
I locked the screen and looked out the tinted window.
For ten years, I had plotted this. Every late night, every financial maneuver, every calculated risk. I had let them think I was weak. I had let Grant Holloway believe he was untouchable. I had let them gather in their fortress, completely unaware that I held the keys to the locks.
The city rushed by outside, completely changed from the night before. The untouchables had been touched. The powerful had been broken.
