Chapter 6 - The Race Against Time

The heavy oak doors of the mansion closed firmly behind the departing detectives.

Daniel stood in the center of the room with his hands clenched into tight fists.

He turned his attention back to Emily, who was still trembling helplessly in the chair.

Her entire world had just been shattered for the second time in a single month.

"I am not going to let them take you away, Emily," Daniel stated with absolute conviction.

He pulled a sleek smartphone from his pocket and immediately dialed his private security team.

"I need Elias at the estate right this second, and tell him to bring his best forensic servers."

Emily looked up through her tears, her voice barely above a fragile whisper.

"Who is Elias, and how can he possibly help us fix this nightmare?"

Daniel knelt beside her chair, looking directly into her panicked, tear-filled eyes.

"Elias is the best cybersecurity expert in the entire country, and he works exclusively for me."

Within twenty minutes, a tall man with thick glasses and a rugged laptop bag arrived at the mansion.

Elias did not waste any time with pleasantries or formal introductions.

He immediately commandeered the large dining room table and set up three separate computer monitors.

"Show me the forged bank statements the police left behind," Elias commanded sharply.

Daniel handed over the manila folder, his expression dark and incredibly dangerous.

Elias began typing at a furious pace, his fingers flying across the glowing keyboard.

Lines of complex green code reflected in the lenses of his glasses as he searched for digital footprints.

"These offshore transfers are highly sophisticated, but they are not entirely flawless," Elias muttered.

Emily stood nervously behind him, gripping the back of a dining chair to keep her balance.

"The digital signatures match my exact handwriting profile," she pointed out fearfully.

Elias scoffed, not taking his eyes off the rapidly scrolling screens.

"Anyone with access to the foundation's old HR files could easily copy and paste your digital signature."

He tapped a specific key, bringing up a map of the city with a blinking red dot.

"The IP address used to initiate the first fraudulent transfer was bounced through three different servers."

Daniel leaned closer to the screen, his jaw set in a rigid line of determination.

"Can you trace it back to the original source before our twenty-four hours run out?"

Elias smirked, typing another rapid command into his sophisticated software.

"I already did, and the signal originated from a cheap burner phone purchased at a downtown electronics store."

The room fell into a heavy, thoughtful silence as the first real piece of evidence materialized.

Vanessa was smart, but her hired help had clearly made a fatal error in their rush to frame Emily.
