Chapter 9 - The Gala Trap

The twenty-four-hour deadline was rapidly approaching, but Daniel had a completely different plan in mind.
He had instructed his lawyers to legally stall the police until the highly anticipated charity gala that evening.
The Sterling mansion had been transformed into a breathtaking venue filled with crystal chandeliers and white roses.
Emily stood near the grand staircase, wearing a stunning emerald green evening gown that Daniel had gifted her.
She looked entirely different from the frightened maid who had been slapped in this exact foyer.
The elite members of high society mingled in the ballroom, completely unaware of the dramatic storm about to hit.
Vanessa, fueled by pure arrogance and false confidence, actually dared to attend the event.
She walked through the front doors wearing a bright red dress, expecting to see Emily humiliated in handcuffs.
Instead, she saw Emily standing proudly beside Daniel, radiating absolute elegance and power.
Vanessa's fake smile faltered, her eyes narrowing in vicious confusion.
She marched directly toward them, unable to control her toxic, impulsive nature.
"I am genuinely surprised the police have not dragged you away yet, you common thief," Vanessa hissed loudly.
A few nearby guests stopped their conversations, turning their heads to listen to the rising drama.
Daniel stepped forward, a cold, predatory smile playing on his lips.
"I am so glad you could make it tonight, Vanessa, because we have a special presentation planned."
He gestured to the massive digital screens that had been set up around the ballroom for charity auctions.
Suddenly, the screen flickered, and the charity logos were replaced by a crisp audio recording.
Vanessa's own voice echoed loudly through the entire ballroom, sharp and undeniably cruel.
"I want Emily completely destroyed, Marcus, so make sure the foundation money points directly to her."
The guests gasped in unison, the collective shock rippling through the massive crowd.
Vanessa's face drained of all color, her bright red dress suddenly looking completely ridiculous.
"This is a fake, a completely manufactured lie designed to ruin me!" she screamed frantically.
The screens then flashed to display the exact bank routing numbers, tracing the stolen money directly to Vanessa's personal accounts.

The undeniable truth was displayed brightly for every important person in the city to witness.
Her grand illusion of superiority was permanently shattered in front of everyone she desperately wanted to impress.
