Chapter 6: The Packing of the Past

Chapter 6: The Packing of the Past

Upstairs in the master bedroom of the Las Lomas mansion, Renata stood before the expansive walk-in closet, calmly packing a single durable leather duffel bag.

She didn't take the diamond tennis bracelet Alonso had given her on their third anniversary to appease her after another humiliating family dinner. She didn't take the designer clothes Evangelina had sneered at, nor the expensive jewelry bought with dirty money. She left every single superficial token of her six-year marriage right where they belonged—abandoned in the gilded cage.

The heavy oak bedroom door swung open violently, and Alonso rushed in. His hair was messy, his tailored suit heavily wrinkled from a sleepless night, and his eyes bloodshot with raw panic.

"Renata," he panted, taking a desperate step toward her with his hands raised in a placating gesture. "Renata, please. Let's talk about this calmly. Whatever you think happened—whatever misunderstanding—we can fix it together."

Renata didn't stop folding her simple cotton sweater. She didn't even look up to meet his gaze.

"There's no misunderstanding here, Alonso," she said, her voice steady, calm, and utterly chilling. "Just math."
